Tassels on My Feet

Hope you all had a great weekend! I can't believe summer is here already. It's been such a crazy busy year and being in and out of L.A. a lot, I feel like time passed so fast. With summer creeping up so fast, I chose an easy dress that I wore almost exactly a year ago (here) and paired it with my tassel heels from Jimmy Choo. I've been saving these heels for a special occasion, but really, I hardly ever go out, so I wore them out this day even though I wasn't going anywhere fancy. Sometimes a girl's gotta just put her best heels on and strut about town and tell herself "I am a bad ass."

Hope you all have a lovely week! Remember, you are in charge of how you feel so choose happiness! xoxo

Summer Weekend Wear

My Sundays in L.A. are usually spent at the flea market or by the beach. Whichever it is, there's always a lot of walking involved and my outfits tend to be very casual. This past weekend I was on a mission to find some cool chairs in one of my favorite white tees and white denim shorts. Didn't have no luck but oh, well, at least the weather was beautiful.

White t-shirts or tees are a staple in my wardrobe. I have one two many of them and although they might look almost identical when they're folded in my closet, just by touching each tee, I know exactly which one it is. Every one is cut differently, has a slightly different texture, and fits my body differently. However, even though I love simple white tees, I'm really, I mean really, picky about them which is why every white tee I have seems to be my favorite white t-shirt.

I wear white on white way too often. To break it up a little, I threw on a denim shirt around my waist. Someone on instagram mentioned that I was channeling my sister since she always ties shirts around her waist!

Oddly, I don't really own any black bags but I like the backpack nature of this Rebecca Minkoff bag and the metal detailing add an edge to it.

This isn't just another pair of white denim shorts. These shorts have leather pockets on them!

Denim on Denim for Work

I always keep a pair of comfy flats and some killer heels in my car. Because my job requires me to do so many different things throughout the day, my footwear is very important.
I started out my day doing a lot of labor work so I went with a denim on denim look and threw on my dirty ol' converse. It was the perfect casual and comfy look since I was literally running around all day.

For a client meeting, I quickly swapped  my converse for heels. I always feel like I have some magical power when I'm in heels!
I like to throw in a little punch of color or mix something luxe when I wear casual outfits so I added my Chanel bag. It's definitely more fun than adding a neutral bag.

Wearing Jennifer Zeuner Snake Bracelet (necklace version) and the other usual #armswag.

Adding these Jimmy Choo tassel heels polished the casual look up, thus making it work for a casual client meeting!

Happy 4th of July! Red, white and blue are the colors I wear quite often so I combined all three to channel American chic in a subtle way.

I like the distressed look on these boyfriend jeans from Joe's Jeans. The rips, the patchwork, altogether give these jeans so much more character! I like to roll up my boyfriend jeans to show my ankles and love pairing them with some sexy sandals!

When it comes to design, I love a strong emphasis on line and form. Well, I like many things, and this is why I can never really describe what my design style is because just like my personal style, it's a mix and match of everything.
However, I really love me some vertical and horizontal lines when it comes to the actual interior. I try to incorporate curves in furnishings and texture to soften things up and add more interest.

What's your style? Are you a minimalistic? Traditionalist? Hollywood Glamour? Midcentury Modern? Industrial? or all of the above?

Hope everyone had a wonderful 4th of July! I spent mine with my family and friends at my mom's house eating lots and lots of delicious food and treats! I channeled my patriotic spirit by wearing a One Teaspoon Striped Bikini, findersKEEPERS skirt that I wore during NYFW last year, and my red Chanel bag from LXR & Co.

I made this delicious apple cobbler for 4th of July! Well, decorate it with blueberries, strawberries and bananas.
ripped blue boyfriend jeans, red Celine heels, and white toes. Just another way to express my patriotic spirit!

I won't ever tire of layering necklaces. These are from Charmed Circle (also love this!) and Jennifer Zeuner

Beaded Tank from Parker (also here.)

Obsessed with this Lisa Marie Fernandez (also here and here) neoprene bikini set I got from Everything But Water.

Before instagram, I never took selfies. Now? Every I'm always looking for a mirror now! haha

Spent last week working on a new design project!

Hope you all can follow me on instagram (@songofstyle) to see what I'm up to! xoxo

Bohemian blouses are something I gravitate towards especially during summer. They're so easy to wear with anything from jeans to over a bathing suit. I paired mine with my new embroidered Isabel Marant jeans that I picked up during the Net-a-Porter sale.

Bracelets from top to bottom: friendship bracelet, Cartier, Anarchy Street, Jennifer Zeuner, Anarchy Street

The cropped length of these pants make them perfect to wear with ankle strapped heels.

D.I.Y. Tray

As guest editor for Elle this month, I did a little DIY on turning a picture frame into a tray. I love incorporating trays onto pretty much any surface from coffee tables, to console tables and dining tables since they are both functional and decorative.

Here's what you'll need:
Frame, decorative paper, two handles, electric drill, screw driver, measuring tape, chalk/pencil.

1.) Head to your nearest frame store and pick a frame that goes with your decor. Keep in mind that because you'll be using it as a tray, a picture frame with more depth will work best. I purchased mine at the nearest Aaron Brothers for under $35! When picking a frame, also keep in mind that wood will be easiest to drill through.

2.) Repurpose extra old handles you have laying around or go out and find some fun ones.

3.) Remove the back of the frame and its glass insert.

4.) Use a measuring tape to lightly mark where you're going to drill holes to add your handles. Make sure they're symmetrical!

5.) Using your electric drill, drill holes for each handle through the frame. Use your screw drive to tightly fasten handles. You can put the handles on the side like I did, or on the top of the frame depending on the length of your screws.

6.) Add your decorative paper behind the glass as if you're framing a picture and you're done!

Welcome to My Home

Took these photos of my dining room and living room a few months ago for Elle and now that the issue is out, I'm excited to share a glimpse of my home in L.A.

I wanted to share these two rooms with you because these rooms are where I blog from. I have an office I go to for my interior design job, but early in the mornings I sit in the dining room while eating breakfast and check my blog emails. At night, I sit on the sofa with my dogs right by my side and blog for Song of Style.

I'm sure you know by now that blue is my favorite color and gold is my favorite metal so it was natural for me to pick a blue sofa and use gold accents throughout the home. The dining room and living room are connected but I didn't want to overpower the house with blue (heck, my bedroom is in blue/lilac shades) so I kept the dining room in black, white, and gold yet chose pieces that make a big impact.

For you my fellow bloggers, where do you guys blog at and when? Please do share! xo

I've worn this skirt numerous times since I first got it but for some reason, I never got a chance to photograph it for the blog. I fell in love with the asymmetrical hem: shorter in the front, and longer on the sides. Plus, the rose gold hardware and the texture is so interesting.

Wearing my go-to bracelets from Vita Fede, Cartier, and Celine.

I love a great racerback tank for summer. It's so easy and simple to wear plus it's a bit sexy!

The Doberman

Ok, if the previous week was a denim week for me, this week was probably a mini skirt and a t-shirt kinda week. I think it was all the meetings I had for work and the hot weather, but I felt like dressing in skirts and high heels.

I like dressing down mini skirts. I like the juxtaposition of a relaxed and loose tee with a tight skirt so I paired this mini skirt with a shirt from Lovers + Friends.

Loving this skirt I scored from H&M. The studs, the jagged origami-esque shapes, all combined in a mini skirt! To continue with the slight rocker-chic vibe, I added my new bracelet from Anarchy Street (love this one as well) and my Vita Fede bracelets.

A few seasons ago, I fell is love with Givenchy's Rottweiler tees but too many brands replicated them. I actually like the Lovers + Friends take on the 'angry' or 'barking' dog tee but in the form of a doberman and a tank. So fun to wear!

I'm in Kentucky again! I'm here visiting Wesley Mason's family. My second mom, Teresa was diagnosed with brain cancer last year and we thought she beat it but she was diagnosed with it again a few months ago. Thankfully, her last MRI came back saying that the tumor had shrunk, so we're all being super positive! Thank you so much for the kind words you guys have left for us via the blog, Facebook, and Instagram.

Anyways, I packed a lot of easy to wear pieces for this trip such as jeans and easy to wear tops and blouses. Jeans have been a huge part of my wardrobe ever since I was little, and I remember in elementary school I even got in trouble for having jeans that were "too ripped", so the teacher sent me home to change.

Not much has changed since ripped jeans/distressed jeans are still a staple of my wardrobe. Some are worn-in and torn because of my clumsiness and some, like the ones I'm wearing here, have been perfectly ripped for me. I dressed down my jeans since I was going on a boat ride with the family but they're so easy to dress up with a pair of pumps and a fun top!
How do you wear your ripped jeans?

When I'm wearing a basic t-shirt, I like to accessorize to add a little personality. The necklaces are from Jennifer Zeuner and Alexa Leigh.

These Rag and Bone jeans are perfectly ripped! These are my first pair of Rag and Bone jeans and it sure won't be my last. I love the light wash and the rips in different areas. I paired mine with Isabel Marant's Carol Sandals.

Here is my second look for Vogue España's 7 Días/7 Looks feature. We shot these in my closet and as a lover of colorful clothes and patterns it was only appropriate to wear this pretty matching Bec & Bridge shirt and shorts I've been saving up for a special occasion.

I've worn the longer trouser version (or palazzo pants) of this print awhile back here. I really love the watercolor-like prints on these.

Holding up a Stylestalker dress. The gold cowhide is from nuLOOM.

Skater Chick. This outfit pretty much sums me up. I'm wearing one of my favorite combos that you often see on me which is white on white, a t-shirt that has the word 'tomboy' in it, and a skateboard with me.

I know I say this one two many times on the blog but it's true. Because I work in the creative field and do so many different things throughout the day - whether it's going to a client meeting, design meeting, construction site, blog related meeting, then going out to have dinner with my friends, my outfits have to keep up with that and be able to work for all these various activities.

For my third look for Vogue España's 7 días/7 looks feature, I wanted to show what my normal work outfit would be. Office casual chic with sneakers/flats during the day that can be easily dressed up with a pair of killer heels.

I'm more of a longboarder but I left my longboard in Kentucky so for this shoot, I borrowed Wesley Mason's Element skateboard. I got the sneakers from Lacoste during Coachella at their Lacoste L!ve Party and they're so easy to wear.

My friend Christina, who designs for Pencey, is one witty girl I know. Even before I've become friends with her, I was a fan of her line Pencey and Sauce. She is amazing at coming up with so many cool slogans that I feel like she needs a line solely for graphic tees. This is one of my favorite tees that I own from her line. The word Pretty Tomboy on the front, and jersey numbers on the back with pretty florals in it is so lovely, don't you think?

Perfect Vacation Cover-Up

Even though my trip to Kentucky wasn't technically a vacation, it definitely felt like one especially when you're surrounded by people you love and get to relax.

I picked up this pretty crochet cover-up at the Revolve Malibu Beach House a couple of weeks ago, and it was perfect for my boat ride in Kentucky. The weather was scorching hot (90 degrees + insane humidity that an LA girl is not used to = almost unbearable heat) that you literally want to be in the water all day only in a swimsuit but since this dress being a crochet piece, I was hot, but not drenching in sweat.

I love crochet pieces as bikini cover-ups. I wore mine with Isabel Marant Carol sandals.

Hope you all had a great weekend! I was dressed to go back to L.A. this day so this was my travel outfit. I always get cold in the airplane so I thought about wearing ripped jeans but it was too hot in Kentucky for jeans so I opted for shorts and tied a sweater around my waist and had a J Brand leather jacket with me (seen here) so that I can wear them on the plane.

Bracelets from top to bottom: Cartier, Jennifer Zeuner, Vita Fede, Jennifer Zeuner, Anarchy Street, Friendship, Coordinates Jewelry Los Angeles Bracelet.

We've all done it. If you don't want to carry it, tie it! Tying a shirt around your waist comes in so handy. Channel your inner 90's by tying a flannel shirt around your waist, á la, @songdani (examples here, here and here)!

How is everyone's week going? I'm staying busy since I'm leaving for Korea next week and have so much work to finish before I leave! It's been so long since I was there so I'm excited and nervous at the same time.
This was my back to work outfit after my trip to Kentucky. Kentucky was so hot that when I got back to L.A., it didn't feel that hot despite the weather being somewhere in the 80's. Must be the dry heat in L.A.

I've worn the shorts version of these jeans from Rebecca Minkoff back here, and I've always had a weak spot for printed jeans so I couldn't resist these.
I know sometimes it can be intimidating to try printed jeans but I suggest pairing it with simple basics like a white tee, or pull a color from the pants and wear a top in a similar color family. If you're feeling bold, you can also try pairing it with a contrasting color!

Kept my armswag simple this day since I didn't want to compete against the printed jeans and the trimmed sleeves on my top.

I love anklets. My first memory of anklets is when my mom got me a bracelet and it was too big on me so she put it around my ankle instead. Whether you're putting a friendship bracelet (or embellished bracelet) around your ankles or a bracelet or even combining two bracelets to make one anklet like I did... (the heart anklet is an actual anklet) anklets are a fun way to somewhat dress up your feet.
